Fire, Stow Hill – Newport

At approximately 6:30pm on Friday 15th June 2018 we received reports of a fire at Bethel Church on Stow Hill in Newport. 

Emergency services arrived on the scene and as a result of the fire, there has been significant damage caused to the premises.

A cordon is still in place as a safety precaution whilst the investigation continues and the scene is made safe. A 43 year old man and a 36 year old woman from Newport have been arrested on suspicion of arson and remain in police custody at this time. 

Local Commander, Superintendent Ian Roberts said: 'We are continuing to work with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Newport City Council to examine the scene and establish the exact cause of the fire. We are appealing for witnesses who may be able to assist us with identifying people who were inside the derelict nightclub building at around 6pm yesterday.
